2006 Alexander Valley Zinfandel

Our second vintage of this popular varietal. This vineyard was planted in 1999 from scion wood obtained from our neighbor's 110-year head-pruned vineyard. Blended with a touch of Petite Sirah, this wine offers a deep claret color, classic Zinfandel aromas of blackberry and spice, and a lingering vanilla finish from the french oak.

Tasting Notes:

Classic Zinfandel aromas of berries and spice. Moderate tannins and a rich texture provide an intriguing mix of evolving flavors and persistent finish.

Production Notes:

Our grapes cold soak for 5 days with gentle daily punch downs, followed by inoculation and twice-daily punch downs days 6-8.

Winemaker Notes:

2006 was characterized as a moderate season which lagged 2 weeks behind average. Cooler temperatures provided for even ripening of fruit throughout spring and summer. The moderate weather allowed for extended hang time as we patiently waited for the full flavors to develop.

Food Pairing:

Enjoy with BBQ'd meats, meduim cheeses (Cheddar & smoked Gouda) or chocolate covered strawberries.

4-5 year aging potential.
